In July 2013, I crewed and paced for Betsy Nye at The Hardrock Hundred Endurance Run. The experience was intense and it has taken me some time to process and write about it. Flying home from Colorado, Betsy asked me in jest, “Are you going to write a novel about this?”
In fact, I had thought about several different approaches to a “pacer’s report,” and I could not pick just one angle. The result is that I wrote four independent articles (chapters in my novel?) about the experience.
Chapter 1 – Prepare to Be Blown Away
The dramatic San Juan Mountains in Colorado are home to The Hardrock Hundred.
Chapter 2 – The Hardrock Community
Exploring the magical buzz that surrounds The Hardrock Hundred and how Run Director Dale Garland sets the tone.
Chapter 3 – Hardrock and the Berry Rain Coat
A quirky post about a certain rain coat and how it came to accompany me during my pacing duties at The Hardrock Hundred.
Chapter 4 – Crewing and Pacing (coming soon!)
The nitty gritty sequential details of crewing and pacing.
